WebMay 29, 2012 · On a new SBS 2011 server acting as a domain controller for a small office network, DNS is configured with no forwarders, and just uses root hints. It seems like every few weeks, a DNS forwarder keeps getting added back automatically somehow. It lists the IP of the forwarder of our gateway router, which isn't running DNS server services. Or you might not have internet access and so root hints won't help you. Or you might prefer a particular forwarder to root hints for performance reasons.
